The key ingredient in the rind is citrulline, an amino acid that helps dilate blood vessels in the body – including, of course, the penis. In a medium-sized saucepan, sauté the rind and carrot over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until softened. Add the stock and herbs and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes. Can be served warm or cold.

Peel off the outer watermelon skin and discard. Remove the pink flesh and set aside. Cut the rind into pieces and place in a blender; you may add the flesh if you like, otherwise save it to eat later. Add your choice of yogurt, blend and enjoy!

How to juice a pomegranate:
There are other ways but this blender method I have found to be the easiest:
Place 1½ to 2 cups of pomegranate seeds into a blender; blend until liquefied. Put through a fine strainer or sieve.
Note: Be careful when buying ready-made pomegranate juice in cartons, bottles etc. – these are usually diluted with apple, grape or some other juice, which minimizes the effectiveness of the pomegranate. If it says “100% pomegranate”, you should be good to go, otherwise rather make your own.
Pomegranate Breakfast Shake Recipe
This should be enough for 2 servings.
- 1 cup Pomegranate Juice
- 3/4 cup low-fat milk or soy milk
- 1 large banana, peeled and cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons slivered or sliced almonds
- 2–4 tablespoons protein powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon honey or to taste
- 2 ice cubes
Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend on high speed for about 30 seconds. Pour into 2 glasses and serve immediately. Fruit juices should always be consumed as soon as possible after juicing in order to avoid them oxidizing. Refrigeration does not prevent oxidation (exposure to air).
Pomegranate Cake Recipe
- 1 cup cake flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup castor sugar
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
Grease and flour an 8-inch cake pan. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs until foamy; gradually add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is stiff and well airated.
Into another bowl, sift the flour and baking powder. Fold one-third of it at a time into the egg mixture, alternately with the pomegranate juice. Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes then turn it out onto a cake plate. Dust the top lightly with icing sugar or top with a butter cream frosting.
Creamy Cheesecake with Pomegranate Topping Recipe
- 1 cup Graham cracker crumbs
- 2 tablespoons castor sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 x 8-oz. containers cream cheese, whipped
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup castor sugar
- 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier liqueur
- 1/2 teaspoon finely-grated orange zest
- 2 pomegranates, seeds removed
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup pomegranate juice
- 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
- 2 tablespoons castor sugar
Pre-heat your oven to 350F. Put the crust ingredients into a bowl and combine well. Spread and press the mixture evenly over the bottom and 3/4 inch up the side of a 9-inch springform pan.
Place the filling ingredients into a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat on high setting until light and fluffy. Pour the filling into the crust and bake in the centre of the oven for 20 minutes or until the middle of the cake is just set. (It will continue setting as it cools.) Remove from the oven and cool the pan on a rack for about 3 hours.
Pour the juice into a small saucepan and add the water. Sprinkle the gelatin over the surface and let it stand for 2 minutes to soften the gelatin. Add the sugar and stir over moderate heat until the sugar is dissolved.
Remove from the heat and place the saucepan into a large bowl of ice or cold water and stir gently until cold and slightly thickened but not set. Stir in the pomegranate seeds. Spoon the topping onto the chilled cheesecake. Refrigerate until the topping is set – about 1 hour. Remove the side of the pan and serve chilled.
Simple Pomegranate and Watermelon Smoothie Recipe
- 2 parts watermelon
- 1 part pomegranate (Use twice as much watermelon as pomegranate)
- juice of 1 lemon (optional)
- water for blending
